.CO Registration Policies

Introduction

The .CO Registration Policies outline the terms and conditions of the Consorcio Equipo PuntoCo (referred to as “the .CO Registry”) for registering Domain Names under the .CO top-level domain (TLD) that are included in your registrars’ registration agreement. By registering a .CO domain, you agree to comply with these policies.

Registration Agreement

Before registering a .CO domain, all applicants (referred to as “Applicants”) must enter into a Registration Agreement with an accredited Registrar. The Registration Agreement must include the following certifications from the Applicant:

  1. Policy Acceptance: The explicit agreement to all applicable current and future policies of the .CO namespace.
  2. Collection and Publication of Accurate Information: The data provided in the Domain Name registration application must be true, correct, current, and complete throughout the term of the registration. Applicants must ensure that all such information is kept up to date and cooperate with reasonable verification requests. The following minimum registration information is required:
    1. The name (personal or entity), postal address, e-mail address, and voice telephone number of the Applicant of the Domain Name;
    2. The name, postal address, e-mail address, and voice telephone number of the technical contact for the Domain Name; and
    3. The name, postal address, e-mail address, and voice telephone number of the administrative contact for the Domain Name.

The Applicant explicitly agrees that the provision of inaccurate or incomplete data, as well as the failure to update outdated data may result in the cancellation or suspension of the Domain Name.

  3. Lawful Use: The Domain Name must not be registered for, or used in, any purpose that is fraudulent, illegitimate, or otherwise in conflict with any applicable laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, decrees or our Anti-Abuse Policy. The registration and/or use of the Domain Name must not interfere with or infringe upon the lawful rights of any third party. This includes, but is not limited to, the use for the distribution of unsolicited bulk email, phishing, pharming, use of botnets or malware, infringement of trademark rights, or any other abusive or malicious practices.
  4. Authority: The Applicant must have the full power and authority to enter into the Registration Agreement on behalf of the Applicant and will be responsible for any errors, falsifications, or omissions of information. The Applicant must authorize the sponsoring registrar to act on their behalf in the management of the Domain Name.
  5. Disclosure of Data: The Applicant must agree that the registration data that is personal information may be disclosed to third party requesters with legitimate interest or based on legal or other regulatory requirements to maintain the integrity and security of the DNS. The Applicant further explicitly agrees that registration data may be published on a public registration database.
  6. No direct service: The .CO Registry shall not provide any direct services, including support services, to applicants and registrants. All service or communication requests must be directed to the sponsoring registrar of a Domain Name. All official correspondence and/or other information will be transmitted to the Registrars, who are responsible for informing the applicants and registrants.
  7. Liability: The Applicant assumes all responsibility and liability for the use of the Domain Name, including any sub-domains, services or websites associated with it. The Applicant further agrees that neither Registrar’s acceptance of the Applicant’s registration request nor the actual registration of any Domain Name shall be deemed an indication that the .CO Registry or the Colombian Government has made any determination regarding the legality of the registration, the extent to which Applicant’s registration and exclusive right of use and enjoyment of the Domain Name may violate any applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, ordinances or decrees or infringe on the rights of any other person or entity, and that neither the .CO Registry, Registrar nor the Colombian Government shall have any liability or responsibility arising therefrom.
  8. Acceptance of Dispute Processes: The .CO Registry has adopted the Uniform Dispute Resolution Process (UDRP) for disputes between third parties and registrants for disputes over the registration of Domain Names and may adopt additional dispute processes in the future. The Applicant agrees to be bound by the rules, processes and decisions of the UDRP and any future dispute processes for the term of the registration and agrees that the Domain Name may be suspended, cancelled or transferred in the interest of safeguarding compliance with The .CO Registry’s Registration Policies or as a result of a dispute resolution.

Anti-Abuse Policy

The .CO Registry is committed to fostering a safe, secure, and trusted online environment. We therefore have developed an Anti-Abuse Policy, which can be found here. This Anti-Abuse Policy outlines the principles, reporting mechanisms, and enforcement actions that guide our approach to addressing Domain Name abuse as well as the types of prohibited use. This policy is a core component of our mission to maintain a safe, trustworthy, and resilient namespace. Any violation of this policy may result in the suspension, termination or transfer of the Domain Name.

Policy Review and Updates

The registration policies will be reviewed regularly to reflect technological, legal, and domain industry developments and best practices. The .CO Registry reserves the right to amend these policies at any time by providing notice to its accredited registrars to enhance the reputation, security and integrity of the .CO namespace or in response to changes in applicable law, contractual requirements, or best practices.
